About this event
Black History is American History. From politics and diplomacy, to entertainment and food, Black Americans have played a role in nearly every aspect of our modern society, and comedy is no exception.
We are celebrating this month in the best way we know how: laughter! In the same way that there is no way to define art, there is no way to define the Black experience in America, and we are lucky enough to be connected with many comedians and entertainers that can share their stories and tickle our funny bones in the process.
With a lineup of some of the best Black comics in the Mid-Atlantic, this is no show to miss! Featuring headliner Paris Sashay (Comedy Central), Mike Brown (The Tommy Taylor Show), D.Lo (Comedy Central), Anthony Oakes (recipient of Muriel Bowser's prestigious Mayoral Arts Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts) and Dom Gray
On top of that, we'll be using this show to promote some of our favorite DMV based Black Owned Businesses, including Meet the Curator, Black and Forth, and Bailiwick Clothing Company.
For the last 7 years, Meet The Curator has been a lifestyle clothing brand with the aim to inspire human beings to be the curator of the life they want to lead. The brand focuses on clothing and apparel with a positive word mark slant. With a Black founder and a Black woman as the lead decision makers, they are leaders in representation, and prioritize showing younger generations that people who look like them are capable of doing anything they want.
Black and Forth's unique business model has made it possible for many local small businesses to grow. An extension of the SpiceSuite, Angel Gregorio’s deliciously unique spice shop, Black and Forth allows black entrepreneurs and makers to sell their products and run the store for a day, creating opportunities for financial growth as well as practical experience.
Bailiwick Clothing Company is an apparel brand that artfully merges the worlds of design, culture and purpose. Started in 2016, Bailiwick makes t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and casual wear that represents the best of DC and the DMV. Their name comes from an old English Word for a person’s area of authority, knowledge, or expertise, and they encourage everyone to embrace their expertise, no matter what it is.
With a growing streak of sold out shows, this is definitely one you don't want to wait on, so grab your ticket today.
See you there!
