Event description

Description

They can start fires and move objects with their minds. They have super strength and can teleport. They are in your schools, at your work, and in your neighborhoods. It’s up to you to decide if their freedom can coexist with our security.

In this alternate reality, a terrifying and deadly incident in Tulsa becomes a catalyst for a national conversation on how or if superpowered humans should be regulated, and how to measure their rights against the rights of the public at large.

What would you do? During February school vacation week, players ages 12 and up serve as a Senator in this alternate reality to decide the fate of these superpowered people in the Super Powers Senate Game.

How the game works:

Using interactive tablets, players will serve as Senators for a day in this alternate reality and dream up, debate, and create new laws. Participants grapple with issues of civil liberties, corporate interests, and national security to decide what is best for the future of the nation.

This game takes place over 2 hours and begins in the Institute’s full-scale replica of the U.S. Senate Chamber, followed by committee work in classroom spaces before players return to the Chamber. Individuals will periodically be separated from each other throughout the program. Younger players have the option to partner with a parent, guardian, or chaperone as a single player. Please email info@emkinstitute.org with any questions.

In order to better understand the world you're playing in, please consider reading an issue of The Daily Compass. There, you'll find articles about a variety of superpowered crises and benefits that may shape the way you vote!

Tickets: $15, $10 for members

Special rate for February school vacation week. Ticket includes admission to Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate for the whole day.

Friendly for all ages, recommended for ages 12 and up*

*While this program is suitable for audiences 12+, roles are selected randomly, and it is very likely that players who come together will be separated from each other for some time. Should a younger player prefer to play with a parent, guardian, or chaperone, including an older child, as one player, please purchase a 2-person, 1 player ticket. Younger players are also welcome to play without a parent, guardian, or chaperone with parental permission.
