SUNY-ESF/RadTech Webinar Series: UV-Curing Technology as an Innovation Platform

Alan Jacobsen, Founder, Light Insoles

Advancements in UV-curing technology, such as the development of new photoinitiators, new monomers and oligomers, and new UV sources, has expanded its use over the last few decades. However, outside of stereolithography and some of the other 3D printing techniques, UV-curing has mostly been utilized for coatings, adhesives, and other thin-film, non-structural applications.

The unique characteristics of UV-curing provide ample opportunities to expand this technology into new application space, particularly applications that can benefit from mass customization. In this talk, I will provide two examples where UV-curing has enabled new manufacturing processes that are targeting non-traditional applications, such as sandwich structure cores, helmet pads, and footwear.
