The Department of Commerce's Office of Privacy and Open Government and the Census Bureau's Open Government Office will host a National Sunshine Week Kick-off event. Sunshine Week occurs each year in mid-March, coinciding with James Madison's birthday and National Freedom of Information Day on the 16th. It is a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information.
This year’s event is titled, “Strengthening Transparency through Open Data and Access to Information.” The kickoff event will be held at the Department of Commerce Research Library, 1401 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20230, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. The event is open to federal employees, contractors, and the public.
