Description

Sunshine Lavender Farm's 14th Annual Lavender Harvest Celebration
RSVP Requested

June 10 & 11, 2017:
Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm
Sunday, 9 am – 4 pm

Enjoy the farm while the lavender blooms! A private residence and a working farm since 2000, you are invited to visit, relax and inhale the sweet fragrance of lavender.

The Celebration weekend is your opportunity to get out into the country, reconnect with your family and friends, enjoy the fresh country air, this charming farm - and just breathe.

You may choose to take a farm tour with the owners to learn how to plant, harvest, and preserve this amazing, soothing and sweetly scented herb. Tours will happen throughout the day. Choose to craft with fresh and dried lavender with the assistance of Farm Ambassadors. Discover hundreds of lavender plants and proven varieties that thrive in southern gardens ready to take root in your yard or a favorite container. You may wish to visit the Lavender Garden Shed which will be stocked with handmade lavender items lovingly made in small batches for body, garden, gifts, home, and weddings. Lavender items are created from the crop grown using natural practices. You will find many items unique to Sunshine Lavender Farm, like honey, pottery, and so much more. Here’s a little of what you have to look forward to:

  • Arrive early to enjoy breakfast pastries or a tasty farm fresh lunch. There are even some recipes created with lavender, courtesy of The Picnic Basket catering.

  • Enjoy refreshing and lavender-y ice cold treats from Locopops too.

  • On Saturday, watch visiting artists paint and sketch farm scenes.

  • Master Gardeners will be on hand to help answer your most pressing questions about cultivating annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees in the region.

  • Learn from local beekeepers and take home tips to help the pollinators.

  • New this year, Honeygirl Meadery will join in the fun with tastings, by the sample, the glass or even take a bottle home!

  • Also something new, to give young or aspiring farmers a "leg up", other local farms will join in to share their agriculture dreams, bring some of their livestock, and participate in the Sunday Farmers Market.

  • Bring your farmers market shopping list on Celebration Sunday! Local farmers raising produce and protein will create a mini-market with a selection of farms from the Hillsborough Farmers Market.

  • Weave a fresh lavender wand, basket or mini wreath (fondly called a fairy crown by some) from various shades of sweetly scented fresh lavender stems, or create a lasting sachet in the barn. (For your convenience, prepurchase craft tickets at $10 each, please.)

  • The Poultry Palace is home to a lovely flock of hens and will be clucking in celebration too. There might even be farm fresh eggs for sale from the flock that lay eggs in shades of blue-green, olive green and chocolate brown.

  • Take home tips for growing your own vegetables in small spaces from the farm's Kitchen Garden.

To best prepare for your visit, although there are no entry or parking fees, an RSVP is required. You will be asked to check in upon your arrival. Your support of the farm is greatly appreciated.

The farm is quite small, and a truly humble home. The farm is in its second decade and alongside some grandmotherly plants that are holding on (we don't have the heart for taking out plants until they are fully expired), the field is full of young lavender plants this year.

How did this event come about? The Celebration was originally planned as a thank you to the farm’s loyal farm friends and a means to invest in those who help to harvest the lavender when the field is ready. The farm is open just three days a year. In June, during Celebration weekend, while the lavender is in bloom, and just before the crop is harvested, then again in December for the Lavender Holiday Celebration.

Be sure to bring your hat, sunscreen, garden shears, camera, quilt or lawn chair. No pets, please.

We look forward to seeing you on the farm soon!

FAQ's

What are parking options at the event?

Carpooling is encouraged since parking is at a premium on the farm. Please use the red gate only to enter the farm. A Celebration Parking Ambassador will guide you to your space. Drive slowly on the property and make every effort to park your vehicle efficiently.

I require assistance walking. Is this an event for me?

Celebration Parking Ambassadors will assist you with nearby parking. Most activities occur in a small area on the farm where the ground is mostly even. With assistance from a family member or a friend to offer support, you may experience the lavender farm too.

Is this a family-friendly event?

Kids of all ages enjoy the farm! While the Celebration is designed for adults to unwind and get away from the stresses of everyday life, of course, families are welcome to join in.

Are there opportunities to intern or volunteer during the Lavender Harvest Celebration?

You bet! Ambassadors are needed for the 2017 Lavender Celebration. Help the farm create an amazing experience with memories to last a lifetime for our guests. From greeting guests to helping out fellow gardeners choose lavender plants to teaching folks how to craft with fresh lavender, there's a whole lot of fun, a Picnic Basket box lunch, Locopops, participation in the full event's activities at no change, and a bit of swag in exchange for your time. The farm could really use a few extra hands on Celebration Sunday. Just email sunshinelavenderfarm@gmail.com and let us know your interest. Thank you.

What can I bring into the event?

Be sure to bring your hat, sunscreen, garden shears, camera, water bottle, quilt or lawn chair. If you have allergic reactions to plants, insect bites or stings, please bring any medications as a precaution. No pets, please.

How do I make purchases at the farm?

Cash or cards accepted for purchases, to include craft tickets, at the Lavender Garden Shed. For your convenience, you may wish to bring cash to buy Locopops and craft tickets at other locations on the lawn.

What is the farm's refund policy on pre-purchased craft tickets?

Should one day of the event be more weather-friendly, then plan to attend that day when all pre-purchased craft tickets will be honored. Craft tickets may also be purchased during the event at the Lavender Garden Shed.

What if my plans change and I'm unable to attend?

We hope that this doesn't happen! In the event that you cannot attend, please update your status in Eventbrite so that another lavender lover may join in the Celebration.

What else should I be aware of?

Your safety while on the farm is a top priority. Please look out for yourself and for one another. If handling plants or animals, please use the wash station before eating. Do not enter areas that have not been mowed or are sectioned off. You will find signs posted on the farm with the following:

WARNING

How do I best get answers to other questions?

Since the farm family is busy preparing for the event, please refer to all of the details in this invitation. You may also wish to explore the farm's website: www.sunshinelavenderfarm.com or the farm's Facebook page to see if you can find your answer there. Because the event is free and invitation-only, if you haven't already, sign up for the Lavender Letters on any page of the website to get the latest information about the Lavender Harvest Celebration.

At the Celebration, if you have questions, look for the Information tent or ask any of the ambassadors helping out on the farm identified by their lavender bandannas.

Thank you!
