DESCRIPTION

Canadian singer-songwriters Samantha Parton (The Be Good Tanyas) and Leah Abramson (The Abramson Singers) present their first annual Sunshine Coast Song Camp. Be a participant in a 5-day intensive songwriting retreat/workshop, surrounded by a tranquil 6-acres on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, British Columbia. Let's write songs and sing them!

Using guided exercises, group work, and one-on-one instruction, Sam and Leah will help you nurture and develop your unique lyric voice, giving you new tools to help ramp up your creativity, ditch ruts and clichés, and create your most original, inspired work.

Classes are for all levels of experience, in a fun, relaxing, camp environment! Each night there will be the opportunity to present the day’s work in a dazzling campfire setting, with jamming afterwards under the stars! The camp will end with a public performance at the iconic Gumboot Cafe right in the heart of Roberts Creek.

Camp tuition is calculated per person and includes tuition (group and individual instruction and activities), 5 nights lodging, and three meals a day made with fresh organic farm ingredients. Spaces are limited, so register soon!

LOCATION

This year's camp takes place at Rolling Earth Farm and Retreat, a family farm and retreat centre -- a permaculture-inspired paradise! With Clack Creek flowing through the property, and the wilds of Mount Elphinstone at the back door, you will be surrounded by the gorgeous BC wilderness, with forest trails in the backyard and pristine beaches a 5-minute drive away.

Sit around the campfire at night singing songs under glorious starlight, or cosy up in a hammock beside the creek and moss laden trees to come up with your ideas, or go visit the chickens that will kindly be providing eggs each morning! There are double/shared room, dorm, and tenting options onsite.

*We respectfully acknowledge that our workshop will be taking place on lands adjoining the Sechelt and Squamish peoples. We have been told Roberts Creek is a traditional and friendly meeting place of the two nations and we would like to thank them from our hearts for the privilege of being able to host you within their territories.*

ABOUT THE WEEK

Beginning at 10 am each day, instructors lead you in workshops and specific songwriting-related tasks. We break for lunch at 12:30 pm. Afternoons are dedicated to your writing and instructors host 30-minute one-on-one tutorials from 2-6 pm, on a sign-up basis. Each participant will be allotted one private session with each instructor in the week. Dinner is served from 7-8 pm, and at 8:30 pm there is a nightly performance around the campfire of our day’s work. On the last night of the camp, we will have dinner together at the legendary Gumboot Cafe* in Roberts Creek, followed by a concert in which all participants and instructors are invited to perform for a small audience of locals. Let’s share our new songs with the beautiful people of Roberts Creek, BC!
