Sunday Streets started in San Francisco on August 31, 2008 with a 4.5 mile route connecting Chinatown to the Bayview (this route was repeated on Sept. 14, 2008). Since these two inaugural events, SF has hosted almost 50 events, steadily increasing the annual Sunday Streets season from two (2008) to six (2009) to eight (2010), nine (2011), ten (2012) and nine plus four Play Streets in 2013. This year, 2013, Sunday Streets celebrates our 5th Anniversary milestone with a gala bash on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at CityView at the Metreon (4th and Mission).
Special guests include Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom (expected to attend as keynote) who introduced Sunday Streets when he was SF Mayor, SFMTA Director Ed Reiskin, Dept of Public Health Director Barbara Garcia, Rec and Parks Director Phil Ginsburg and more to be announced soon, so stay tuned for details about ticket sales, entertainment and more.
