Event description
The Social Development Commission is partnering with Marquette University to co-host the 2019 Summit on Poverty and SWIM Conference!

About this Event

The Social Development Commission is partnering with Marquette University to co-host the 2019 Summit on Poverty and SWIM Conference, October 7-8, 2019, at the Wisconsin Center.Last year, SDC hosted its annual Summit on Poverty in conjunction with the Wisconsin Community Action Partnership, WISCAP. This partnership brought individuals from across Wisconsin to explore the shared experience of poverty for rural and urban Wisconsinites. Attendees were challenged to examine the key barriers of poverty: trauma, cognitive dissonance, ism’s, and policies and systems by sharing their stories and cultivating solutions.

Also in 2018, the first-ever SWIM Conference, “Healing Trauma, Healthy Communities,” brought together city and community leaders, care providers, academics and advocates to explore healing and building resilience from behavioral health, community organizing, education, health care, law enforcement and other perspectives. This year SDC and Marquette are excited to collaborate to address interconnected concerns and barriers that are affecting our community. Through this year’s theme,

“Self-Reflection, Hope and Collective Impact” we believe this conference will serve as a catalyst for change.
