Summit Choral Society Children's Choir Program Auditions
Event Information
Description
Summit Choral Society’s distinguished Children’s Choir Program is proud to have roots firmly planted in the greater Akron community for 26 years, representing quality choral arts education and performance for area children. The Children’s Choir Program has served thousands of school-age children from first grade through high school through a comprehensive curriculum based in the Kodály philosophy of music education. There are four core choir levels consisting of: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Performance Choirs. Each core choir emphasizes individual growth and leadership with designation s of Apprentice, Scholar, Master and Luminary within the choir. Additionally, Musicianship classes are offered as a way to enhance the education component of the overall vocal program emphasizing music literacy and understanding. A Master Music Theory class is the newest addition to the curriculum offerings this season allowing Performance Choir singers to further explore the intricacies of advanced music theory, composition and aural theory. Students meeting pre-requisite benchmarks have the opportunity to sing in extension choirs. Unlike core choirs, these choirs change each season and expand individual singer’s vocal talent and ability by exposure to a variety of musical styles and genres. Examples of extension choirs are Madrigal Choir, Broadway Choir, Boyz Choir, Global Song Choir, Musicals, A Cappella Choir, Jazz Choir, Singers and Standards Choir, Disney Choir and many more. Summit Choral Society is committed to providing a comprehensive music education and quality performances of choral literature through this unique choral pathway. For any child interested in singing, contact Shara Cocchiola, Director of Education and Community Programs.
