The Junior Board

The Junior Board is a group of young professionals in the DC area who are devoted to raising awareness about Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School and her many programs. Comprised of college and university graduates, the men and women of the Junior Board place a high value on education and how it translates in the workforce. Donations through events like Summertime Soirée assist Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School make possible the dream of a quality college-prep and work study education for students whose families could not afford it.

Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School

Located in right outside of DC, Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School provides a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum to students in the greater Washington area who have very limited financial resources but dream of going to college. All students participate in the Corporate Work Study Program, where they gain professional work experience and earn money to pay for a portion of their education.

A key part of the educational experience at DBCR High School is the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). All students must work one full day a week, plus a rotating Monday, at sponsoring companies in order to gain real-world workplace experience. Students learn valuable professional skills while extending classroom learning in an unusual way.

Why support Don Bosco Cristo Rey?

Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School and Corporate Work Study Program offers a comprehensive College Preparatory Education in the Catholic tradition to students who never dreamed such an opportunity could exist for them. These students come from predominately low-income, minority families with the average annual income for a family of four typically under $36,000. Yet 100% of students have been accepted to college in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 greatly defying regional and national averages. Most Don Bosco Cristo Rey students will be the first in their families to attend college.

The Cristo Rey model works financially because students earn 60% of the cost of their education through the Work-Study Program. Families make a modest tuition contribution averaging 7-8% of the total cost per year, based on their ability to pay. The balance comes from generous benefactors like you. Students need benefactors to bridge the gap between what they earn, what their families can afford to pay, and the cost of a quality Cristo Rey education.
