Event description

Description

Join our Summer Writing Workshop and realize that project you've been longing to create. From feature screenplay to fiction podcast, TV pilot to travel memoir and beyond, our selective program covers the fundamentals of story through rewriting and getting your work noticed. Make the most of our 10 weeks together to complete a piece of work to be proud of (or the launching pad for a bigger project such as a novel).

We'll have amazing guest speakers throughout the program. Confirmed so far (work schedules permitting!) are:

Novelist, biographer, doctor & professor Caroline de Costa

Author, poet, activist & former aid worker Natasha Scripture

Actor & casting expert Rhona Foulis

Oscar-winning director, writer & producer Asif Kapadia

Actor & former presenter Purab Kohli

Novelist, musician, playwright & screenwriter Yann Apperry

As well as being writers, Sharon and Philip have a love of education and giving back. We understand the challenges of writing and how to get over those hurdles. We're both nurturing and no-nonsense. Our creative and practical advice encourages you to be the best writer you can be. (Hint: "Your greatness as a writer is your greatness as a human being" - William Nicholson, 2012. He co-wrote Gladiator.)

FAQs

How will the course be taught?

We'll use a lively and interactive blend of lectures, discussion, readings, analysis of excerpts from great scripts and literature, short audiovisual & audio clips--and more. Our full bios are below. Did we mention that Philip is a magician?

Is the workshop in English?

Yes! We'll be teaching and writing in English. In case you get stuck, Sharon and Philip also speak: Deutsch, français, español, italiano, 日本語. We welcome writers from all walks of life to our atelier (we have international backgrounds ourselves!)

What is the application process?

Once we've received your workshop reservation, we'll be in touch via email regarding the selection process. The application is simple: a letter of motivation and a 1-page sample of your best writing. We regret that we cannot sponsor visas.

How do I pay?

After you've been selected for the workshop, we will send the form for payment (via card or bank transfer). Payment must be made by Friday 18 May to secure your place.

What if I'm away for one of the sessions?

We understand that you may already have summer plans! You are welcome to dial in via Skype or FaceTime, or we can meet you for a 1-hour individual catch-up over coffee before the next session.

What are my transport options to and from the workshop?

Langue Appart' is close to Oberkampf, Parmentier and Republique metro stations, and the 96 and 56 bus lines. We do not recommend driving, as parking options are limited. Another option is to travel by Velib bike, only if you are comfortable and familiar with Parisian traffic and streets.

Join us in Paris this summer--and write that project in 2018!
