Description

PHOTOGRAPHY FOR NERDS (OR NERD WANNABES!)

Time: Tuesdays in June and July (June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18) from 5:30pm-7:30pm

Instructor: Russell Wolfe

Location: NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street

Tuition: $180

This is a science class with a photography problem. The course will focus on basics of photography through the lens of physics, geometry, and a dash of algebra. In each class, students will learn a science-based process or concept that they can use to develop or apply to their photographic style and techniques. The course meets once a week for six weeks. Each class will be two hours long.

REQUIREMENTS

This course is aimed at beginners but will also be of interest to more seasoned photographers who are curious about exploring photography with a scientific approach. Students will need to provide their own digital SLR camera with 18-55mm lens (or similar); filters (ND, polarizing, UV, IR); tripod; and remote shutter. Enrollment is limited to adults age 18 and older.

NOTE

A minimum number of students must enroll in this class for it to "make". If fewer students enroll than are necessary, the class will be cancelled and full refunds will be issued. If we have to cancel the class, we'll make every effort to notify students at least one week before the first class meeting.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Dr. Russell Wolfe moved to New Orleans in 2007 from Nebraska, where he studied Physics, Biology, and Mathematics. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University for research focused on understanding how stem cells respond to the physical forces that occur during large-scale bioprocessing. While at Tulane, he also taught hands-on undergraduate engineering courses in robotics, electronic circuits, and medical device design, in addition to mentoring undergraduate students in research practices, public presentation, and professional career development. Dr. Wolfe’s artistic endeavors include ceramics and digital photography.
