Event description

Description

Summer Spark presented by University School of Milwaukee is an annual two-day innovation symposium for teachers and administrators. It draws educators and administrators from around the Milwaukee area, the country, and even the world, with past participants coming from as far away as Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina.

In 2015, the symposium's inaugural year, more than 200 educators representing more than 60 schools came together to collaborate and share best practices in innovative teaching. In 2016 and 2017, Summer Spark sold out in advance, with more than 260 educators attending from more than 70 different schools each year.

Summer Spark returns in 2018 featuring keynote speakers Tom Murray and Sylvia Martinez.

As a leader, presenter, and author, Tom Murray is one of the top thought leaders in the education world. A tireless advocate for digital education and personalized professional learning, he is the Director of Innovation for Future Ready Schools in Washington, D.C. and serves as a keynote for organizations across the country. He serves as a school district consultant for digital learning implementation and transformation and has won various awards for his contributions to education. He co-authored Learning Transformed, recently published by ASCD in 2017.

Sylvia Martinez travels the world advocating innovative learning, design thinking, and hands-on creation for students and teachers. She is a global leader in the Maker Movement, co-authoring Invent to Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom. She is passionate about advances in STEM education, gender equality and opportunity, and project-based and inquiry-based learning. As a keynote speaker and consultant, she helps craft professional development opportunities that drive meaningful, practical change in K-12 classrooms.

Additional featured presenters include Enthusiastic Educator Tara Martin, Media Literacy Mastermind Julie Smith, Professional Pirate Shelley Burgess, "Perfect Teacher" Myth-Buster Aaron Hogan, Gamification Guru Michael Matera, Technology Integrator Rachelle Dene Poth, and 1:1 Wizard Michael Jaber.

The cost for both days is $190. Groups of five or more individuals from the same school or district can register together and still each pay a special discounted rate of $160 through June 1, 2018.*

More information is available at www.usmsummerspark.org.

*If you are not all able to register with one payment, please register separately using the Regular Admission ticket for $190.00 and have one person send an email to summerspark@usmk12.org indicating the names of the individuals who will also be attending. Once all five—or more—have registered and paid by June 1, you will each receive a refund of $30.00.
