Join us on West Cherry Street and support Community Initatives in Columbus!
We are very excited to be partnering with PlacesMakes: for our first open-air SOUP event! Located at along West Cherry Street in downtown Columbus, they have transformed the street into a place for people. Public spaces such as streets are central to the dynamics of city life. They are gathering spaces and the perceptions that people have of these areas directly affect how they use them. Right now, alleys tend to be neglected and do not inspire a range of uses and activities. PlaceMakes is changing that and we are excited to be part of this exciting concept.
This will be a unique experience for the #greenspoonarmy and we’re excited for the energy the space will bring to our Summer event.
This event will be B.Y.O.E. (bring your own everything!):
- Bring what you need to build your perfect picnic at SOUP! Throw out a blanket and bring your wicker basket… or pack up the folding chairs and act like it’s a tailgate party… do what will make you most comfortable at our SOUP in the street! Don't worry, we will still have some snacks and soups from local restaurants, like always; but this soup is about creating your own experience too! Check out columbussoup.org/attend for what restaurants are coming.
- Bring your beverages! We’ll handle the basics like water… but our friends at PlaceMakes: have partnered with the city to create a space where you can enjoy your favorite alcoholic beverage on a downtown street—as long as it’s not in glass! Don’t worry, we’ll help you recycle those cans and plastic bottles. Did you know you can even get wine in a can?
- Bring some snacks to share! Of course we are going to have soups and other food donated; but we’d like to see this this event be our most communal community event yet! What better way to meet those around you than to swap some snacks with each other! Bag of potato chips? Okay! Charcuterie plate? Don’t mind if we do!
As usual, all attendees must RSVP before the event. But, just like the rest of this event, we are shaking things up here too. To reduce the amount of cash floating around on a downtown street, all RSVPs donations must be made online, in advance of the event. We will still have our raffle for 2nd place, and you can donate more than $7 toward the winning project at the door, so don’t forget to bring some extra singles!

What is the refund policy?
All donations to the Summer SOUP grant are final. No refunds are permitted. Columbus SOUP is fiscally sponsor by Community Shares of Mid-Ohio, an Ohio 501(c)3 organization. RSVPs processed through Eventbrite are subject to a non-refundable processing fee. These fees help cover the cost of providing internet sales and are not collected by Columbus SOUP.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Nope! We will have registration lists at the event or you can use your mobile ticket to speed things up.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
A parking garage is located at 226 S Front Street which is accessible from Front or Wall Streets. In addition, there are other nearby garages and street parking is always free on Sundays. We also encourage the use of alternative transportation, such as the CBUS, Car2Go, Uber, or Lyft.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
The only restriction is on glass containers. Please BYOB in a can or plastic bottle.
