Please join us on the longest day to celebrate the summer solstice by breaking bread and participating in ancient traditions honoring our connection with the land and each other. People of all ages are invited to join us to weave flower wreaths, sing traditional songs, and take part in a ritual walk.
The solstice sunset traditions will be led by Maria Schumann, a folklorist, farmer, singer, and ritual practitioner who leads singing groups and practices bringing to life the ancient calendrical agricultural rituals of our ancestors through community, song, and dance.
The community is invited to arrive at early at 6 PM for an outdoor community potluck.
The Solstice Sunset Ritual is rain or shine (rain cancels the potluck only) and will be outdoors so dress accordingly. Park at the Studio Route 29 or ArtYard parking lots and meet in the backyard at ArtYard’s Creekside Residency at 50 Trenton Avenue.
The event is free with a suggested donation of $10 per person.
Maria Schumann is a folklorist, farmer, singer, and ritual practitioner from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where together with her husband she grows organic apples and milks sheep at their farm, Cate Hill Orchard.
She leads singing groups and practices bringing to life the ancient calendrical agricultural rituals of our ancestors, through community, song, and dance.
