Summer Solstice Celebration
Fri, June 23, 2017, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM EDT
Summer Solstice is a very important day for our planet and its relationship with the sun. It is one of two solstices, days when the rays of the sun directly strike one of the two tropical latitude lines. Summer Solstice marks the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere and simultaneously heralds the beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere. Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.
Awed by the great power of the sun, civilizations have for centuries celebrated the first day of summer otherwise known as the Summer Solstice. So, join us for a family-friendly celebration of the sun and all things summer!
