Summer Series Educational Seminars for Science Teachers - Part 1
Event Information
Description
The Houston Forensic Science Center’s (HFSC) Educational Seminars are designed to provide tools to teachers to engage students and increase their interest in the sciences through forensics. TV has given forensic science a pop culture appeal, and HFSC hopes to capitalize on this by using it to increase students’ interest in science. HFSC will provide attendees with materials _ including a list of materials, books, publications, etc. _ instrumental to curriculum development. The workshop will provide teachers with the knowledge to assist in the development of an active learning environment for both themselves and their students. The workshops’ content will focus primarily on criminal investigation. The course content will allow teachers and students to become enveloped in a technical role that will challenge their minds and engage the observation. The first training will incorporate aspects of crime scenes, including sketching and documentation, fingerprint theory and development and impression evidence, such as shoe and tire markings. This information will allow students to gain experience in a highly specialized field. It will also enhance the entire science curriculum, providing students with crucial skills that can assist in standardized testing.
