Summer of Art is a weekly series at UN Plaza which brings together dance, music, theatre and spoken word from Tenderloin, SOMA, and Central Market to enliven this beautiful, historic plaza with fun and exciting activities for neighborhood residents, employees and visitors alike. The series is coordinated with the Off the Grid food truck services that come to UN Plaza each Tuesday from 11-2pm. Enjoy an outdoor lunch while watching a free concert of music, dance, theater and spoken word. This season also features occasional participatory events, such as a free Bollywood dance class, for those who want to take the stage or be part of the art-making as well!
April 30th-May 28th What’s On Stage?, curated by Leyya Tawil, artistic director of Dance Elixir and co-director of Temescal Arts Center, is a preview series for upcoming shows at local dance and theatre venues in the direct vicinity of UN Plaza. Each week features previews of dance and/or theater productions from local venues, and a live music or participatory arts experience for the audiences and passersby. This spring’s line-up features Alonzo King LINES Ballet School, American Conservatory Theatre’s MFA Program/The Costume Shop, Kunst-Stoff Arts, LEVYdance, Cutting Ball Theater, and the Center for New Music.
