Summer Courses 2018

June 12, 13, 14 8am to 3pm

3 Days (8 Hour) Face-to-Face

We have applied for 18 CEU with:

MN Board of Education and Teaching, Board of Social Work and the MN Post Board

Tuition: $400

Snacks, Lunch and resources provided.

Audience: Teachers, Cultural Diversity coordinators, Liaison Officers, School Resource Officers (Police) Dean of Students, Special Education Teachers, Teacher’s Aides or Educational Assistants or Behavioral Specialist.

Give your Diversity, Equity and Inclusion teachers and staff the skills and professional guidance they need to become master instructors and coaches on issues of Inclusion. We will take time to Investigate results-based research and examine key supports for people in the field of diversity. Together we will Explore the unique needs of diversity professionals in schools. We hope to Discover essential strategies for K-12 diversity leaders, coaches and school leaders to develop an effective culturally reflective and inclusive programs school-wide.

Learning Outcomes:

Gain an understanding of how to work cross-culturally with students and families.
Acquire specific skills, strategies, and techniques that provide essential skills and knowledge built on institutional support for equity educators.
Frame essential diversity, equity and inclusion support strategies within a common language of instruction, schools discipline, productive behavior correction and culturally reflective practices.
Establishing how to engage in student-family goal-setting, using interpreters, and navigating mental illness with a cultural lens and examining best practices for teachers, school resource officers, cultural liaisons or diversity coordinators to immediately and continually improve their instructional practice

Purpose: As a professional, we know that the world is changing and often faster that we can keep up. It is clear that we need to keep our skills sharp but we also need to make sure we are connecting with families as we serve them and the broader community. In this course we will explore educational models, legal responsibilities and best practices that allow us to more effective in engaging the students and families we serve.

Practical Guide to my work

Instructors: Andre Koen, Educational Equity Professor at Bethel University will be the primary instructor. As an Instructor Andre uses is combination of his 8 years as a k-12 classroom teacher, his work in county government and his time as an improvisational comedian to motivate and educate his audience. These will also feature a number of Faculty from Bethel who will share their research and best practices for k-12 educators.
