Description
Summer Camps at The Scrap Exchange
**Now flexible to accommodate 7-12 year olds!**
The Scrap Exchange is excited to offer a series of weekly summer camps in 2015! Children are invited to participate as we develop young leaders, use our resources wisely, and learn hands-on creative skills – essentials in living an eco-smart life! Expect plenty of cooperation, celebration, and fun!
All materials are sourced from local partners participating in the reuse revolution. Find the schedule and price that works for your family. Upon registration, you will receive registration forms and more detailed information about camp. Please contact Wendy Ziegler at outreach@scrapexchange.org about scholarship opportunities or to inquire about before and after care.
Adventure Builders
June 15-19
9:00am-4:00pm
Design and develop an adventure playground at The Scrap Exchange! Campers will learn how to use everyday tools safely as they inventively install a permanent playspace together. Expect to play innovative games using our unique materials, create obstacle courses, and make the most of our colorful resources. We’ll work from the ground up with repurposed materials to ignite the power of play for years to come.
Camp Leader: Maryah Smith-Overman
Maryah Smith-Overman has worked as a fine furniture designer and maker for 7 years in Asheville and Durham, NC. She teaches basic woodworking locally and travels to teach as well. She received her BFA in design at UNC-Greensboro and went on to study woodworking at Haywood Community College in the Professional Crafts Program. Her continuing work with wood focuses on the use of reclaimed materials and incorporating visual movement and many forms of surface decoration. She looks forward to empowering people of all ages by giving them skills to use tools and build functional items.
Camper Expectations
We expect all campers to arrive well-rested, nourished, and ready to participate and have fun! All campers will demonstrate respect towards staff members, fellow campers, and themselves while at the Scrap Exchange. Campers are expected to be kind to others and follow simple instructions. Although we pride ourselves on offering creative programs for most children, we recognize that the Scrap Exchange’s Summer Camp program may not offer appropriate support for all children, especially those with special medical, physical, behavioral, or social needs.
Attendance at Summer Camp is contingent upon meeting these expectations. There will be no refunds issued for campers that are asked to leave the Scrap Exchange due to behavioral problems or disobeying these policies.
Refund Policy
All withdrawal requests must be made in writing. Payments lost due to withdrawal cannot be forwarded to the next year’s camps or other programming.
