Description

DRAWING STUDIO PROJECTS
Jacob Kincheloe
10 sessions >> Wednesdays, June 5-August 7
6:30pm-9:30pm, Studio 13, $480
Prerequisite: Intermediate to advanced students

This course offers intermediate to advanced drawing students the opportunity to devise 3 major projects to be completed over the course of 10 weeks. The studio will function both as a classroom for concerted work time, and a community of fellow artists sharing technical and critical skills in service of one another’s development in drawing. Weekly critique, readings, and discussions will foster greater insight into historical and contemporary approaches to drawing, and help grow students’ understanding of the role of drawing as an element of their practice. Technical and material demos will encourage practical advancement, and will support the progress of ongoing projects.

____

Jacob Kincheloe is an artist living in Oakland, CA, with a practice based in graphite drawing. He received his MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston / Tufts University, and BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Kincheloe uses drawing to explore desire and the curious nature of the physical body. His work engages elements of historical painting and photography, restaging and recontextualizing them through the subtle process of graphite drawing. Kincheloe’s detailed drawings express the struggle and pleasure of inhabiting a desiring body, and examine the peculiar performance of identity.

He is a recipient of the William R. Kenan, Jr. Fellowship at the Penland School of Crafts, and the Montague International Travel Grant. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States at locations including CB1 Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), Allegheny College (Meadville, PA), Lee Hansley Gallery (Raleigh, NC), Aidekman Arts Center (Medford, MA), Art Access Gallery (Columbus, OH), and The Center (New York, NY).

FAQs

What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?
Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.

What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?
All classes, unless otherwise noted, meet at 800 Chestnut Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.
