Event description

Description

suicide to Hope: A Recovery and Growth Workshop is a one-day workshop primarily designed for clinicians and other professional caregivers who work with persons recently at risk of and currently safe from suicide. It provides tools to help these caregivers and persons with experiences of suicide work together to develop achievable and significant recovery and growth goals.

Mission. To strengthen hope by increasing the ability of helpers to hear, understand and work with the wants and needs of persons recovering from and growing through suicide.
Goal. To encourage and enable participants to apply a recovery and growth oriented approach to working with persons previously at risk and currently safe from suicide.
Objectives. As a result of participation in this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how suicide experiences provide an opportunity for recovery and growth work;

  2. Recognize how their helping qualities might impact recovery and growth work;

  3. Understand a schematic of common issues and related recovery and growth opportunities;

  4. Apply a model for setting recovery and growth goals; and a framework for monitoring and coordinating recovery and growth work.

NOTE: Though not a pre-requisite, it is imperative that participants have already received training in suicide first-aid (usually through ASIST or AMSR courses) or plan to receive such training shortly after this workshop. Suicide to Hope does not teach suicide intervention skills; this is specifically for working with people who are currently safe for now from suicide

Registration will begin at 8 AM with the class starting promptly at 8:15. There will be a 1-hour lunch break on your own. Attendance for the entire workshop is required to receive certification at the end, so please plan to stay until 5 PM.

Required pre-reading before attending the workshop: https://app.box.com/v/s2HPreReading

7 CEUs are available for an additional $35 via CEUnits, approved by NASW, NAADAC, and APA. Additional information about how to obtain these will be provided the day of the workshop.

Samantha Nadler, Middle TN Regional Coordinator will be the facilitator for this workshop. All questions pertaining to the class can be emailed to her at snadler@tspn.org.
