About the Keynote Speaker David N. Miller, Ph.D.

David Miller is an associate professor in the School of Education’s Division of School Psychology, part of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, University at Albany, State University of New York. Dr. Miller is currently serving as President of the American Association of Suicidology, the oldest and largest membership organization in the U.S. devoted to understanding and preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it. Dr. Miller’s expertise is youth suicidal behavior generally and school-based suicide prevention in particular and has extensive experience working with suicidal youth in both public and alternative school settings, as well as coordinating suicide prevention programs at a school for students with severe behavior disorders.

Dr. Miller is a senior author of the book Identifying, Assessing, and Treating Self-Injury at School (2010) and author of Child and Adolescent Suicidal Behavior: School-Based Prevention, Assessment, and Intervention (2011), and the author of 40 refereed journal articles and book chapters, many of them related to youth suicidal behavior. Dr. Miller serves on the editorial advisory boards of several professional journals.

The conference venue is located at 425 Water Street Portsmouth, VA 23706. There is on-site parking available in a parking garage for $10/day. The height clearance in the parking garage is 7.5 feet.
