Dr. Marnin Heisel is a Clinical Psychologist and the Director of Research in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Western Ontario. He also holds an adjunct faculty appointment with the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York State. Together with the Canadian Coalition for Senior Mental Health, he had helped create Canadian national guidelines for suicide risk assessment and intervention and translation tools for healthcare providers and family members of older adults, and had received many awards for his works.
To bring together stakeholders throughout Orange County to identify the needs for action in the prevention, intervention, and postvention of suicides in the 1) Transitional Age Youth 2) Older Adults and 3) Veteran populations. Participants will learn to identify potential warning signs, talk so someone that has thought of suicide, and connecting to Orange County resources.
Who Should Attend
Orange County mental health workers, first responders, teachers, nurses, and other professionals that work directly with TAY, Older Adults, and Veterans.
REMINDER: Doors will open at 8:00 AM for Registration. Parking is limited. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
