Session One: Organize & Prioritize . Ellen Delap, Certified Professional Organizer

Among the challenges ahead are continued work from home and school at home, anxiety about illness, gauging your kids’ academic success and balancing social interaction. Facing these uncertain times, we can be intentional with how we organize and prioritize to create school success. Certified Professional Organizer Ellen Delap will share tips on the foundations for family communication, organization and academic success.

Participants will be able to

 host family meetings and calendars.

 create a space for learning.

 understand how to support yourself and your family.

 form routines to help all your family navigate the school year successfully.

Session Two: Effective Teaching Strategies . Robin Rettie, M.Ed.

The number one challenge for parents and educators that impedes learning is behavior. Capturing and maintaining a child’s attention to stay on task long enough is the ultimate goal, but how is that done without constantly reminding a child to complete a task? What makes a child wiggle, twist, and turn, or even become defiant or have a full-blown meltdown? When providing an anchor for all children to feel safe, setting clear expectations, and imparting ownership of behavior onto a child the outcome benefits a child for a lifetime. Robin’s session provides specific strategies to sustain learning for the child. Embracing the curiosity in your child and establishing expectations for you and your child sets you both up for success. You can navigate a child’s participation with less stress when utilizing effective teaching strategies that truly work!

Participants will be able to:

 understand neuroscience blended with cognitive development

 have knowledge of learning environment triggers – strategies to reduce stimulus allowing the brain to calm to increase attention to tasks

 discuss evidence-based teaching strategies demystifying a child’s behavior in partnership with the child to instill taking ownership

 review approaches to wrap both parent/child and teacher/child in peace and joy

Session Three: Practical Behavior Strategies . Candace Floyd, M.Ed.

The start to the 2020-21 school year is unlike any we've experienced before. Many people are wondering how to make the most of virtual learning at home. Others are trying to ensure the best possible transition from virtual to in-person instruction. For parents of students with disabilities, there are so many questions about the school year ahead. Whether or not your student receives 504/special education services, it is more important than ever for parents and educators to communicate about the needs of all students and how they can be met. The session presented by Candice Floyd will include practical behavior strategies for parents, caregivers, educators, service providers, and administrators that can be implemented both in home and at school.

Participants will be able to:

 implement proactive behavior support strategies.

 understand and design effective reward systems.

 provide support to students during difficult moments.

 become a collaborative member of a student's planning team.
