Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan and Proposed Changes to Sanitary Code
Event Information
Description
Suffolk County will be hosting a stakeholder meeting on Monday, May 16, 2016 on the following critical Reclaim our Waters nitrogen management initiatives:
-
The Suffolk County Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan and associated Generic Environmental Impact Statement (kick-offmeeting); and,
-
Proposed changes to the Suffolk County Sanitary Code (and associated Construction Standards) to authorize approval innovative/alternative on-site wastewater treatments systems (I/A OWTS).
The Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan will serve as an early action of the Long Island Nitrogen Action Plan*, and will provide recommendations for septic system nitrogen load reductions, and a preliminary wastewater management strategy, for all of the priority subwatersheds of Suffolk County.
The Sanitary Code changes will authorize the use of I/A OWTS on residential properties, for flows of up to 1,000 gallons per day, on a voluntary basis (no Board of Review variance required), for technologies which meet County performance specifications. Changes to the commercial code, and a framework for transition from passive systems to I/A OWTS, will be developed and proposed later in 2016.
