Description

This workshop explores why substance use disorder is considered to be a disease and how it affects human brain and behaviors. The workshop will explain why substance use disorder is called a “family disease”, showing the effects of this disorder on the family members of a loved one with addiction. Examples of interventions will be given for a client in addiction and recovery as well as how to involve their family members in therapy interventions.

Objectives

  • Summarize effect of substance use on the brain

  • Discuss the definition and criteria for substance use disorders (SUD)

  • Introduce intake and treatment options

  • Describe family members’ role and interventions

  • Identify community resources


*This program is approved for 3 hours of continuing education by WestGate TCN dba Emerge Family Therapy Center under it’s accreditation by the state of South Carolina Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Work, and Psychoeducational Specialist.

What entrance to the building do I use for the event?

There will be signs outside directing you to the correct entrance. The event will be held on the bottom floor training room of EMERGE. You will enter in the side door of the building by the concrete staircase.

What is the Refund Policy?

Full refunds will be available for 7 days following ticket purchase. After that, we will be unable to refund Eventbrite's processing/service fees. Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Your ticket may only be used for this event.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

The name on your ticket needs to be the name of the person who attends. If you plan to buy a ticket for someone else make sure to register with the name and email of the person planning to attend the event.
