Is race for hard-core runners?
No. The Subaru Color 5K is for fun. It is not timed and participants can walk, run, skip, jump and dance their way to the finish line. Although hard-core runners are welcome, they will be navigating the route filled with walkers, strollers, and color stations. Runners are encouraged to stay to the left while walkers and wheeled participants are encouraged to stay on the right.
Are bicycles allowed?
No. For the safety of all participants, the only wheeled vehicles allowed are wheel-chairs, strollers and wagons.
Are animals allowed?
No. For the safety of all participants and animals (pets and wildlife), no animals are allowed.
What else is prohibited?
Firearms, drugs, alcohol, glass containers, coolers, lewd or offensive behavior and frowns.
Is there an age limit to participate?
No. All ages are welcome. All children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the entire event.
Is the 5K wheelchair, wagon and stoller-friendly?
The full 5K route has areas that traverse through our nature trails, with dirt/mulch/leaf ground cover and our grassy lawn. These areas may be accesible using all-terrain wheelchairs, wagons and stollers. However, there is a shorter, 1-mile route that is fully paved. Participants can make as many laps on either route to make their race as long or short as they desire.
Is there a charity that benefits from this race?
Yes. All proceeds from the Subaru Color 5K benefit Special Olympics Indiana through a donation from the SIA Foundation, Inc.
Is there a packet pick up?
Yes. Details TBA.
Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
What if I registered and I can not run?
While refunds are not possible, you may transfer your registration to another individual by logging on to the event website. If you do not have anyone who can fill your spot, your registration fee will still benefit Special Olympics Indiana.
Is there any situation where the race will be cancelled or postponed?
The race will take place rain or shine unless there is severe weather or another emergency that threatens the safety of the participants. If conditions allow a delay of the start by one hour, the race will continue. If conditions do not allow the race to occur that day, SIA will make every attempt to reschedule the race. Any cancellations, delays or rescheduling of the event will be communicated on the race website as well as via email to all participants who registered online with a valid email address.
What's the down-low on the color powder?
The color powder is corn-starch that has been dyed using food coloring. It is non-toxic and environmentally-friendly. The purpose of the color powder is to turn a mundane 5K race into a colorful, whimscal, fantasticlly fun event. The powder is tossed in the air and at participants, who should all be wearing white clothing at the start of the race. Participants will then encounter several "color stations" where Subaru Color Ninjas will do thier very best at making sure you leave their station covered in color. By the end of the race, participants will be covered from head to toe in brightly colored powder.
Anything else I should be aware of?
All participants will be required to sign a waiver and release form. Parents/guardians will have to sign a waiver for thier minors who participate in the race.
It is recommended that anyone participating in the race consult their doctor prior to the race to ensure it is safe to participate.
Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. and SIA Foundation, Inc. is not responsible for lost or stolen items or children. It is recommend that you leave all valuables at home. All children MUST be accompanied by their parent/guardian throughout the entire event.
And finally... why color?
Because everything is better in color!
