We are two South African students currently studying at Ivy League universities in the USA. Lexie is studying at Brown and Steph is at Yale. We both applied to American universities two years ago, and between us were accepted into Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Brown, UPenn and the University of Chicago. Over the course of these two days, we hope to pass on the important information we learnt along the way.
This workshop will run in two parts. Session 1: Saturday 9:00-12:00 and Sunday 9:00-12:00. Session 2: Saturday 2:00-5:00 and Sunday 2:00-5:00. Students should choose either the morning workshop (Session 1) or the afternoon workshop (Session 2). Students will be required to attend on both Saturday and Sunday. These two days will be geared towards preparing South African students to apply to schools in the United States. Information covered will include taking the SAT or ACT (standardized admission tests), choosing colleges, writing application essays and interviewing.
The two days will be broken into seven sections that cover 1. How to choose American Colleges, 2. The liberal arts system, 3. The Common App, 4. Essay writing, 5. Admissions Test, 6. Interviews, 7.How to make your application stand out. In each section, we will pass on insider tips and share our own experiences - information that can't be obtained on college websites or through reading college catalogues.
There will also be a parents information session at 12:30 on Sunday the 15th for all parents whose children are attending the workshop. The info session will be an hour long and will provide parents with the information they will need to help and support their children through the process of applying to international universities.
