Event description

Description

Learn the facts about your college student's safety and security overseas. In this seminar, parents will learn the right questions to ask program administrators and the ways security threats associated with study abroad programs can be identified. You'll also learn how to work with Administrators to develop effective strategies to overcome them.

Following the Department of State format, subject matter experts will instruct parents on discussing personal security issues, including current crime trends and how to reduce risks, with their student. Presenters will include experts who have planned for and managed emergency events involving overseas travelers, students and families around the world; and through actual case studies discuss the many aspects of Study Abroad security not usually presented in handouts.

Participants will have a unique opportunity to meet the professionals who provide routine and emergency services overseas. This course will help parents prepare students as well as themselves for handling an emergency event overseas, guide parents on how to work with Administrators should an event occur, and discuss accountability issues following an event.
