About this event

Part 1: 11:00 am

Hildur Ásgeirdóttir Jónsson’s Studio Loftworks Building, 1667 East 40th Street

Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson has lived in Northeast Ohio since 1983. She studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art from 1985 - 1988, then earned her BFA in 1991 and an MFA in 1995 from Kent State University. She was awarded the Cleveland Arts Prize in 2008 and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award in 2015. Her work has been shown in New York City (Tibor de Nagy Gallery) and Iceland (Studio Stafn, Reykjavik) as well as locally in Ohio, in Cincinnati (Carl Solway Gallery) and Cleveland (Abattoir Gallery and MOCA Cleveland) to name just a few venues. Agnes Gund (NYC), Progressive Insurance (Cleveland), Dealer Tire (Scott Mueller), Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals have collected her work. Jónsson is known for her abstracted landscape compositions, consisting of painted silk threads woven on an oversized loom. She creates weavings, embroideries, and drawings, often inspired by the stark, primordial vistas of her native Iceland.

Part 2: 12 noon

Abattoir Gallery, Hildebrandt Building 3619 Walton Ave., Suite 102C

Co-owners Lisa Kurzner and Rose Burlingham opened Abattoir Gallery in 2020 in the Hildebrandt complex – a former 19th century meat processing factory turned artist and entrepreneur’s space. Kurzner will be welcoming Art Dialogues participants to Abattoir and providing background information about the Gallery and Jónsson’s exhibition which features some of her newest works. Jónsson’s work along with that of Brinsley Tyrrell will be on view at Abattoir for the month of May.

NOTE: Entrance to Jónsson’s studio is located behind the Loftworks Building in its back parking lot. Street parking is also available.

The Hildebrandt Building is located in the Clark - Fulton area of Cleveland and is a short 10 minute drive from Jonsson’s studio. Parking for Abattoir Gallery is available in the Hildebrandt complex lot and on Walton Avenue .
