Studio Portraits: 2-Light Setup & Posing Photography Workshop

Studio Portraits: 2-Light Setup & Posing Photography Workshop

By Offshoot Studios

Overview

Free photography workshop at Offshoot exploring how to capture portraits in a studio setting with continuous light

This workshop explores how to capture portraits in a studio setting with continuous light. Offshoot includes continuous lights with both their studios, making this light setup work well for both photography and videography.

The first half of the workshop will teach you to set up and use a 2-light continuous lighting system for headshots and full-body portraits. We’ll go through a few different setups, discuss how to get better portraits, and some tips and tricks when taking studio portraits.

The second half of the workshop will teach you basic posing techniques that work well with a 2- light setup, helping you to pose your subject better.

If you’re interested in taking things up a notch, we’re also running a more advanced ‘Studio Portraits: RGB + 3-Light Setup, Posing & Styling’ that will teach you how to use a 3-light continuous lighting setup, how to use RGB lights, along with more advanced posing as well as styling your subject.

What will be covered?

  • Using a 2-light continuous lighting setup in a studio
  • Backdrop setup
  • Light setup and cabling
  • Light positioning and lighting the backdrop and the subject
  • Camera settings
  • Posing a subject
  • Directing a subject

Who is this for?

What should I bring?

You don’t have to bring anything along with you, but you will get the opportunity to take some test shots yourself and ask questions.

If you’re bringing a camera, make sure to bring:

  • An SD card so you can take some photos and preview settings
  • A fully charged battery
  • A lens between 50mm and 100mm full-frame equivalent

No tripod or flash is needed. We will be shooting primarily handheld, and all lighting will be continuous.
