Studio Lighting Workshop - One Light Lighting
Thu, March 23, 2017, 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM GMT
There are many elements that make up a good portrait, but the one overriding element above them all is the light. My grandad used to say, "Red sky at night, shepherd's delight, bad light, your image will be shite." Or something along those lines.
THIS IS A FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP. No fluffing it out. We're going to quickly demonstrate how strong and dramatic portrait images in a variety of styles, can be created with just one flash unit and one light modifier. Then you immediately start shooting them. You will instantly shoot better portraits. You probably already have everything you need to give your images a little more edge. If not, we'll tell you how to get them super cheap.
This workshop is suitable for all photographers of all experience. Whether you're an amateur looking to learn how to shoot images of your family better or a solid working professional looking to refresh your skills. We guarantee anyone attending our workshop will have fun and come away from it with either new or sharpened skills.
Our studio is small, but perfectly formed and we're not afraid to show it off. The techniques are not just for studio flash though. What we show is transferable to any environment. Just a maximum of 6 photographers attend each workshop. You'll get a demonstration of how to create a variety of extraordinary looking images, with quite ordinary looking people, in a way that you'll remember easily, with just one light. And then you'll all start shooting each other. Like the final scene of Reservoir Dogs, except with cameras. Kind of.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Our studio is just 3 mins walk from Bury Interchange, easy peasy to find if travelling by tram or bus. We've no car park but you can park right outside the studio on one of the many metered spaces that Bury Council so kindly provide for us (free of charge after 6pm, hurray).
What can I bring into the event?
All you need is your camera. Bring a memory card too or else the whole thing will be pointless. Lens selection wise, we've designed the workshop for shooting at good old 50mm. But anything from wide to about 85mm works for this workshop. As long as you know how to change the camera settings manually and it has a hot shoe then you'll be fine.
You WILL have your photograph taken during the evening. Either use this as chance to experience what your subject feels like when having their portrait taken, or an opportunity for a new profile picture. This is a practical workshop and we get everyone involved, so be prepared for this (wearing no makeup will NOT be accepted as an excuse lads!)
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Ant on 07736741435. Or drop us a message through our Facebook page.
What happens after the workshop?
After attending this workshop you'll travel home happy, brimming with excitement at the new knowledge gained, with a memory card* full of lovely RAW files that you will love editing!
We'll also send you home with an assignment that will hopefully get you shooting what you learn straight away**. You'll be invited to join our super secret Facebook group where you can share your images, ask for feedback on us and community members. You'll also get first dibs on places for any further workshops.
* Memory card not provided. We don't provide film either if you shoot that stuff. Also, we haven't yet decided if we'll provide refreshments, you should bring your own just in case. We won't' be stopping for a break during the workshop. Take one if you need one, but if you do you might miss something! It's only 2 and a half hours FFS...
** You don't have to do the assignment. It's not like we give you a certificate or anything....
