Event description

Description

How do you set yourself apart form other photographers? How do you get the most out of the light in any situation? How can you maximize the impact of your images?

It's all about the light.

Light is what describes all that we see. Light in photography sets the mood, directs our eye, and underlies every aspect of the image. It's to us what paint is to the painter and what sound is to the musician. Great photographers have learned how to recognize it, leverage it, create it and exploit it to tell the story they want to tell.

One of the best ways to learn about light is through direct interaction. With daylight we can sometimes move the subject, but we can never reposition the sun. In the studio, however, we can. We begin in darkness yet can move into telling a myriad of stories depending on the quality of light we choose.

Soft light describes differently than hard light. Small sources describe differently then large. Modifiers each make their own statement, as do the various ways a light source (i.e., strobe head) is constructed. And it all can be seen.

In the studio we can try them all, work with them, capture their qualities digitally and study their effect.

We will meet once a week every Thursday 7-9 pm, October 12 - November 16.
