Event description
Book club discussions for Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next)

About this event

*UPDATE* The author of Mutual Aid himself, activist and professor Dean Spade, will be joining us for a short Q&A during our November 10 session!

From the publisher: This book is about mutual aid: why it is so important, what it looks like, and how to do it. It provides a grassroots theory of mutual aid, describes how mutual aid is a crucial part of powerful movements for social justice, and offers concrete tools for organizing, such as how to work in groups, how to foster a collective decision-making process, how to prevent and address conflict, and how to deal with burnout.

Writing for those new to activism as well as those who have been in social movements for a long time, Dean Spade draws on years of organizing to offer a radical vision of community mobilization, social transformation, compassionate activism, and solidarity.

About the Book Discussion

Studio ATAO's ongoing book discussions are small group conversation series that dives into real-world applications of new ideas learned from our readings. All discussions are open for anyone to join, for as many or as few sessions as desired.

These 1.5-2 hour conversations are moderated by our internal Studio ATAO team and kept to a maximum of 8 participants per group to ensure intimacy and depth of conversation.

Our team puts in many hours per month to structure these conversations very intentionally, and ensure the facilitation questions are thought-provoking and challenging. Thus, we do charge a nominal fee to participate as a way to minimize dropouts and to compensate our moderators; if you are facing financial hardship and would like a free ticket, please email us at kariesha@studioatao.org and we will be happy to offer you a spot!
