IFT Philly: Student Appreciation Night, Tuesday, May 1, 2018


Drexel University, Academic Bistro Academic Building, 6th Floor

$45.00 for adults, $30 for students

IFT Excom meeting: 4:30 Lounge, 6th floor, Academic Building:

Science Fair Set Up: 4:45-5:15 PM (tables set up in hallway between elevator, and bar)

Pre-dinner reception: 5:15 -6:00 (check in table outside of bar, students will help with check in)

IFT: Your Resource for Today’s Environment & Challenges

Christie’s presentation will include a high-level overview of IFT’s vision and mission, promises and strategic initiatives and will highlight new offerings, developments and initiatives at IFT. She will also emphasize the value of being involved in IFT from a career perspective, including the value of participating in sections and divisions.

Presentation of Awards: 6:35-7:10 scholarships and recognition of science fair winners. (Jake Hammerman)

Dinner Buffet: 7:15 – 8:15 (Bistro)

Menu: Preparation and service by Drexel students in CULA 216 under chef Jim Burke and HRM 415 under Professor Paul O’Neil

Passed hors d’oeurves: Sweet pea soup shot, minted froth

Charcuterie station: Sliced salumi, chicken liver mousse, toasted bread, mustard & pickles , assorted cheeses.

Entrees and sides:

- Crispy skin salmon, ginger-citrus sage

- Slow roasted chicken, natural jus

- Vegetarian entrée/pasta

- Honey glazed baby carrots and their pesto

- Wilted spinach, garlic and lemon

Dessert: Mini fruit tarts

Christie Tarantino-Dean, FASAE, CAE Chief Executive Officer

Christie Tarantino-Dean joined the Institute of Food Technologists in April 2014 after more than 20 years of association management experience. IFT is a global scientific association of more than 17,000 members from more than 80 countries. Prior to IFT, Christie led the Association Forum of Chicagoland whose members represent more than 46,000 association professionals, giving her great exposure to the challenges and successes of the more than 1,000 professional societies and trade associations located in Chicago.

Prior to her role at Association Forum, she served as the Executive Director of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), which has 35,000 members and 62 chapters. Tarantino-Dean also gained extensive experience in convention management as the Associate Vice President of Member Relations at the Professional Convention Management Association, and began her association career as Membership Services Director with the Alabama State Bar Association.

She received a master's of public administration degree and a bachelor's degree in political science from Auburn University at Montgomery. She earned her Certified Association Executive designation in 2002 and was named a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives in 2013. Also in 2013, she was named Outstanding Alumni of the Department of Political Science & Public Administration at Auburn University at Montgomery. In 2017, Ms. Tarantino-Dean was named at one of the Top 50 at 50 alumni of Auburn University at Montgomery.
