Event description
This inaugural event will take place to benefit Smilow Cancer Hospital.

About this Event

Where are the proceeds going?

One half of the net proceeds will be contributed to the Oncology Social Work Fund.

The Oncology Social Work team at Smilow is available for patients throughout the continuum of care, from diagnosis through survivorship or bereavement. Staff social workers help patients and families through the initial adjustment to a cancer diagnosis, in addition to discussing concerns related to the illness, its treatment, and prognosis. Social workers advocate for the patient and the family, with the ability to assist with advance care planning, decision making, and with referrals to additional community resources. They facilitate support groups for many cancer types, as well as for young adults with cancer and their family/friends who care for them.

The Oncology Social Work Fund provides assistance to Smilow patients in financial need, as well as to non-insured and under-insured patients needing additional support. The Fund helps these patients with necessities that may not be easily available to them due to the challenges inherent with their illness. For example, assistance includes (but not limited to):

  • Grocery gift card(s), to ensure food on the table
  • Pharmacy cost(s) assistance
  • Transportation assistance, for those who are unable to afford the bus or train to the Hospital for treatment(s)
  • Household bills; assistance with telephone, electric and/or heating expenses

During the holidays, patients often receive baskets filled with items such as lotions, food, a small gift for a child or spouse, warm gloves, hats or scarves, a CD or DVD, and other items that might help the family during a particularly challenging time of year.

Philanthropic support makes the Oncology Social Work Fund possible and enables the hospital to support the increasing number of oncology patients seeking assistance during an often difficult time.

A: Before purchasing ticket(s), take a look at the Tee Sheet for updated pairings. We aim to accommodate everyone's requests.
