Event description

Description

Why do health disparities persist? How can we address them at their roots?

This workshop goes beyond the common behavioral, cultural, and biological explanations of health disparities to examine the “upstream” social, political, and economic structures that produce and perpetuate modern social inequities. Topics discussed range from the funding of health care to structural racism to strategies for responding to harmful structures.

This open, public training is hosted at SMU each winter by the Structural Competency Working Group (SCWG). Of note, we are currently accepting applications for our 2019 cohort of new members; attending one of our trainings is a prerequisite for applying. Our application and other information is available on our website.
