Event description

Description

Returning for a third time, Stroud Sacred Music Festival 2017 is shaping up to be even bigger and better this year. Recognizing the power of music to break down barriers and bring people together in a way that words alone cannot, this amazing event promotes a message of unity and peace. By bringing together a soulful and eclectic mix of music from many sacred traditions – including Christian, Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish as well as the music of indigenous peoples – the festival promises to be a vibrant and heartfelt celebration of difference and diversity within the community. Whether or not you are a person of faith, everyone is encouraged to join in and experience the interplay between movement and stillness, between sound and silence that this music creates. It is this shared experience that promises to be the heartbeat and lifeblood of the festival that brings people together.

Over the weekend a variety of family friendly events and activities are planned, including daytime workshops and two evening concerts. Musical line ups include Gospel Choir, Tribal Rhythms Orchestra, sitar and tabla duo Samswara, and internationally renowned, Praying for the Rain, who offer a compelling blend of contemporary folk, Celtic and world music.

The event is the brainchild, of the Rev Simon Howell and festival co-director Girish Patel. Simon and Girish play music together in the local Anglo-Indian fusion Raga Baba band. They are passionate about the power of music to bring people together as one, irrespective of their beliefs, and heal division within communities.
