Strongman/Powerlifting Hybrid Strength Challenge 

The Rise for Parkinson’s Hybrid strongman challenge will be a FOR CHARITY event designed to test your strength in “Classic Powerlifting Style” with modern strongman implements (see event description and rules below) and help generate proceeds and awareness for The Parkinson’s Education and Support Group of Sussex County.

This two-day event is a strongman for EVERYONE, all levels, and is the perfect first event for anyone interested in either powerlifting or strongman; however experienced Strongman/Powerlifting athletes will enjoy this event as well.

Saturday June 3rd @ 2pm-4pm - Strongman Seminar:

This seminar will consist of classroom presentations on the basics of Strongman training implementation, proper form & technique instructions, and Strongman programming.   The majority of the seminar will revolve around hands-on instruction while working in small groups. If you are new to Strongman, this is a great way to get introduced to it safely.  Come learn from 2 of the fastest rising stars in the sport today!  Andrew Triana, national level competitor and coach to the world’s finest strength athletes!  Nick Hadge, International level competitor and WINNER OF THE JUNIOR WORLDS STRONGEST MAN. 

Sunday June 4th Strongman Event June 4th @ 9:30am   Rules/Safety Briefing- 9:00am. This meeting is mandatory.  Strongman Event starts at 9:30am. Weigh-in 4:30pm Saturday.

What you will get competing at Strongman/Powerlifting Hybrid Strength Challenge:

  •   A great fun safe competitive environment in a beautiful 24,000 square foot facility!

What you will not get competing at this Hybrid Strength Challenge.

  • Traditional awards, in an attempt to generate as much revenue for The Parkinson’s Education and Support Group of Sussex County.  We will not be presenting traditional awards (trophies) instead we will be assembling “Goodie bags” from our event sponsors.
  • Stress, tension or issues! 
  • This is a non-sanctioned event and will not have rankings.

Divisions:

Women:

  • Under 5”6,
  • Over 5”6 (If you are on the cut off you will go up a class) 

Men:

  • Under 5”11
  • Over 5”11 (If you are on the cut off you will go up a class)

Event Rules and Description:

YOKE SQUAT:  

  • Weight for events:
    • Women’s “short” Yoke height will be 40 ¾” from ground / Weight will be 285lbs
    • Women’s “Tall” Yoke height will be 45” / weight will be 285lbs
    • Men’s “Short Yoke height will be 43 ½”/ weight will be 405lbs
    • Men’s “tall” yoke height will be 46 ¾” / Weight will be 40lbs
  • After an affirmative response from the athlete when the judge asks “Athlete ready?” the participant may step underneath the yoke to set up
  • When the lift command is received from the judge you may proceed to lockout
  • When the hips and knees are locked and eye contact with the judge is made you will receive your down command. Dropping it prior to the judges command will result in a no rep.
  • There will be an “up” and “down” command for each rep instructing the athlete when to lockout or when to return to the start position
  • 60 second time limit
  • No spray tacky or other stick substances, no knee wraps

 

LOG:

  • Weight for events:

         Women’s “short” or “tall” 65lbs

Men’s “short” or “tall” 125lbs

  • After an affirmative response from the athlete when the judge asks “Athlete ready?” the participant may step to the log to set up
  • When the lift command is received from the judge the athlete may proceed to clean and press the log
  • Once overhead with the feet near the starting position and hips, elbows, and knees locked you will receive a down command.
  • The down command allows the athlete to return the log to the rack position where they can press away for reps only waiting for subsequent down commands.
  •  The athlete may put the log down to re clean at anytime
  • Do not drop the log from overhead
  • 60 second time limit,
  • no spray tacky or other sticky substances

 

13" DEADLIFT:

  •  Weight for events:

Bar will start at 135lbs and will make consistent jumps until no one is left standing. Each athlete is allowed 3 attempts, once an attempt is missed regardless of when the athlete is disqualified from the event.

  • After an affirmative response from the athlete when the judge asks “Athlete ready?” the participant may step to the bar to set up
  • The athlete will be given time to strap in at the bar or request assistance if needed
  • The down command will be given when the hips and knees are locked and in line with the shoulders
  • The athlete must return the bar safely to the ground. I.E dropping will result in a no rep
  • 30s time to attempt the lift,
  • No spray tacky or other sticky substances, no oil/water on the legs,
  • No suits or knee wraps 

Why are proceeds going to The Parkinson’s Education and Support Group of Sussex County?

The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation estimates there are more than 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and more than 60,000 people are diagnosed each year.  Parkinson's disease is caused by a breakdown in the nerve cells in the brain.   The affected nerve cells do not produce enough dopamine, which affects the person's ability to move the way they want.  Tremors, stiff muscles, slow or limited movement, and trouble with balance or walking are all typical symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.   In time, Parkinson’s affects muscles throughout the body, leading to difficulty swallowing, digestion, facial movement, and sometimes dementia.  

For people with Parkinson’s, exercise is more than about being healthy; it is a absolutely vital component to maintaining balance, mobility and the ability to perform activities of daily living.  RISE Fitness + Adventure is passionate about helping people in Sussex County who suffer from this crippling disease.  They offer daily group fitness programs that help fight the effects of the disease.  

Saturday at 12pm (before the Strongman Seminar) RISE members who suffer from Parkinson’s will be performing in their own version of a Strongman/Powerlifting event.  Anyone interested in more information or who would like to attend the event can contact the RISE team at team@trainatrise.com.

Who is running this event:

Nick Hadge is a twenty three year old strongman with a Bachelors in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College who also holds the title of “Worlds Strongest Juinor”. Nick was a teen national champ, a junior national champ, and has collected other valuable accolades along the way including a world record 815lb deadlift. Although it may not seem possible, Nick’s future is far brighter than his current accomplishments.

Andrew Triana is a twenty two year old coach, athlete and scholar. After graduating with Nick, Andrew is looking to continue to pursue his education to the highest level. He has coached numerous world champions, national champions, pro strongmen, as well as all other spectrums of the population to success.
