Event Details

The Brown RISD Hillel Initiative on Racial Awareness and Justice (HIRAJ) is inviting student leaders from groups and organizations across campus to join Yavilah McCoy on Saturday, March 14, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM for a workshop titled "Stronger Together? How Faith and Identity Meet Action in the Civil Rights Movement, Current Fight for Racial Justice and #BLM." We will be exploring the roles that student leaders can play in advancing identity-group/ faith-based action toward racial justice and the power and pitfalls of intergroup and interfaith alliances in this realm. Lunch will be served.

We also invite you to join us at Brown RISD Hillel for dinner and a talk by Yavilah McCoy on the previous night, Friday, March 13, at 7:30 PM. The topic of the talk is “Preparing for Action: A Black-Jewish Journey Toward Activism.”

Brown RISD Hillel Initiative on Racial Awareness and Justice

The Hillel Initiative on Racial Awareness and Justice seeks to create dialogue, deepen understanding, and take action on issues related to race and racism in our community, on our campuses, and in our country. As a group of racially and culturally diverse Jewish leaders at Hillel and members of the Brown and RISD campus communities, we are committed to looking inward in order to make Brown RISD Hillel a more welcoming space for multiracial Jews and Jews of Color in particular. By raising awareness, building sensitivity, and increasing education and reflection on these issues, we hope to increase our ability to be in authentic allyship and solidarity with People of Color in the Brown community and in the country. We are committed to working for racial equity and justice both in and beyond the space of Brown RISD Hillel.
