Strive San Mateo - What Areas of the City Do You Want to See Change/Preserv...
Event Information
Description
Where and how do you think San Mateo should change over the next 20 years?
Join one of the most important conversations we can have about San Mateo’s future. It all starts with your ideas and input! Your feedback will help identify what areas of the City should be evaluated for change, preservation and improvements.
During two workshops (June 8 and 10), community members will learn about the City’s General Plan Update, and hear about housing, demographic and transportation data that is informing this multi-year process. Participants will also use a map of San Mateo to help identify what areas of the City could accommodate future growth or stay the same.
Come show us where in San Mateo you think we could accommodate new housing, jobs, services or commercial space. What areas would you like to see stay the same or have historic value? Where should we focus on preserving open space? Are there places you think need transportation improvements to help you get around?
Your input will help inform what areas will undergo a more robust analysis on the impacts of possible changes in the future.
Childcare and refreshments will also be provided.
Next Steps:
Once the study areas are identified, currently anticipated to happen by August 2019, a similar community process will explore the type and amount of growth that could occur in these places. After narrowing the options to three land use alternatives, the City and its consultant team will evaluate and compare the alternatives to see how they would impact community character, circulation, public services and infrastructure, as well as the City’s budget. The community will continue to be involved in another meeting series to narrow in on a preferred land use alternative for further study.
Background:
This is part of Strive San Mateo – a multi-year process to update its General Plan, the guiding planning document that oversees City policy development and land use planning.
The community’s input is integral to this process and everyone is encouraged to participate via workshops, online at StriveSanMateo.org, by email at GeneralPlan@cityofsanmateo.org, and through other feedback channels.
**Please note the format of these two workshops are the same. Click here to sign up for the Saturday, June 8 workshop instead.
