Description

Strike a Prose: Middle School Edition

Creative Writing Inspired by “Contemporary Americans”

Saturday, Feb. 22, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

G Street Lobby

In this creative writing workshop, we will gain inspiration from the portraits, lives, and words of Michelle Obama, LL Cool J, and Toni Morrison and others who are featured in the National Portrait Gallery exhibition “Contemporary Americans.” We will view and discuss works of art, learn how to develop characters and settings, and write short stories. Open to middle school students (in 7th and 8th grade). Each participant must be accompanied by an adult. Fee: $12 (includes registration for one child and one adult)

Led by local writer Willona Sloan, this workshop is open to writers of all levels who are in the 7th-8th grade. Materials are provided.

Please plan to arrive at the 8th and G Street, NW entrance at 9:45am so we may begin promptly at 10:00am. Because this workshop begins prior to public hours, those more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted into the museum.
