Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Mark your calendars! Another fun and informative evening is coming together for StrictlyVC readers and beyond. Our host is NextWorld Capital, a venture firm that invests in early-revenue stage startups with the aim or helping them grow into global leaders. (It also happens to have a beautiful office and gallery in San Francisco's Jackson Square neighborhood. Thank you, NextWorld!)

-----

We're delighted to say that our speakers include:

1.) Impossible Foods cofounder and CEO (and renowned geneticist) Pat Brown, who sees global meat consumption as among the biggest crises of our age and is setting out to address it with his Impossible burgers and much more. (Added bonus; the company is bringing its plump, juicy burgers for attendees.)

2.) The RealReal founder and CEO (and e-commerce pioneer) Julie Wainwright, whose online marketplace sells pre-owned, authenticated luxury items, including fashion, jewelry, and fine art. Wainwright, who previously served as C.E.O. of Reel.com and Pets.com, is known for being remarkably candid by Silicon Valley standards; we're excited to talk with her about fundraising, marketing cycles, competition, counterfeiting trends, and more.

3. ) Confide co-founder and president Jon Brod, whose popular secure messaging app aims to bring off-the-record professional communication to the online world. Paranoid VCs love it. So do unhappy White House staffers. We'll talk with Brod about the roller coaster he's riding this year -- including becoming the focus of attention of skeptical security researchers.

4.) Lightspeed Venture Partners founders Barry Eggers and Ravi Mhatre; they've been involved in the biggest IPOs of 2017, Snap and Mulesoft, respectively -- deals that have launched Lightspeed into Silicon Valley elite status. Can it maintain its hot hand, and where are the partners shopping next?

----

With the help of Semil Shah, founder of Haystack, a series of micro-seed funds that count among their portfolio companies Instacart, DoorDash and Managed by Q. Shah is also a venture partner with the cross-border firm GGV Capital and a frequent guest editor for StrictlyVC.

With the help, too, of Lora Kolodny, Emerging Tech Editor and video host at TechCrunch.

------

We'll have terrific food, drinks, and networking throughout. You can check out the full agenda here.

-----

With much thanks to our generous sponsors:

Square 1 Bank: The bank for entrepreneurs + investors

Rosebud: Public relations for startups

Bullish: One part strategic creative agency, one part consumer investment firm

Haystack: Seed stage capital for creative founders
