Join us for this intimate 90-minute class where Erin Hostetler, owner of The Patio Farmer, will cover the 5 "S's" of growing food at home PLUS invite you to start your food growing journey by providing a planter, soil, and seedlings to start growing your own vegetables, herbs and fruit at home in whatever size space you have.
Farmer Erin is passionate about teaching others how to get started or continue their food-growing journeys. She specializes in small space growing (like patios, decks, raised beds in the backyard) but has many years of on-farm work experience growing Certified Organic fruit, vegetables, and herbs.

WHO IS THE PATIO FARMER?
The Patio Farmer is a woman-owned business that works one-on-one and in-home with clients across the Charlotte area who are interested in growing food at home. Farmer Erin got her bread and butter farm education while working on a 20-acre Certified Organic production farm in northwestern Pennsylvania. She has worked on an urban farm in central London, an organic farm in eastern Iceland and several local farms in Charlotte and Concord. For 2 seasons, Erin was the Farm Manager at the Urban Farm at Garinger High School in east Charlotte.
Since 2017, Erin has owned and operated The Patio Farmer where she gets to apply her knowledge and passion for growing food in a creative and supportive way, helping individuals and businesses across the Charlotte area.
CHARLOTTE StrEATs FESTIVAL
The StrEAT Smarts Sessions are a new addition to the 2023 Charlotte StrEATs Festival, part of Charlotte SHOUT! These intimate seminars give you the opportunity to learn from experts on a variety of culinary subjects. These sessions will take place from April 1-14th and will lead up to the big StrEATs weekend! In partnership with Charlotte SHOUT!, food publication Unpretentious Palate and Carben Events are excited to introduce a new festival celebrating the chefs and neighborhoods that make Charlotte's culinary scene what it is.
Attendees will taste their way through the city's most iconic neighborhoods without leaving Gateway Village in Uptown! The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations, neighborhood vs. neighborhood cook-offs, celebrity chefs, food trucks, live music, art and vendors.
