Description

Women in Running: Challenges and Opportunities, 50 Years Later

At the 2017 Boston Marathon we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Katherine Switzer’s historic run, which made her the first female runner to race and finish the Boston Marathon, ushering in a new era for women in running.

Women’s participation in running has rapidly evolved since that historical race in 1967, and Strava is proud to present a panel of six of the most influential women in running to discuss the key challenges and opportunities that a female athlete encounters, including body image, pregnancy, motivation, safety and personal pressures, 50 years later.

Panel:

Candice Huffine, Founder of Project Start, Vogue cover model, running her first Boston Marathon

Alison Désir, Founder of Harlem Run and Run 4 All Women

Kelly Roberts, Oiselle athlete, blogger “Run, Selfie, Repeat”

Amanda Nurse, local Boston running hero (Marathon PR and OTQ of 2:40), personal coach and yoga instructor

Kaitlin Gregg Goodman, Strava Track Club member, OT qualifier in the 5K, 10K and marathon

Moderator:

  • Heather Mayer Irvine, Runner’s World Food and Nutrition editor and multiple Boston Marathon finisher
