Please join Sharon Thomas and Dr. Jaclyn Ghamar on Thursday, November 1st, from 9:00am to 10:30am for a parent coffee about how to improve test performance for anxious students.

Topics discussed will include how to:

- Identify signs of text anxiety
- Help your student prepare effectively for each stage of the test-taking process
- Boost your student's confidence and positive self-talk
- Encourage better study habits at home
- Target specific executive functioning skills
- Teach and practice strategies with your student that reduce anxiety




Jaclyn Ghamar, Psy.D.
Jaclyn Ghamar is a licensed psychologist in New York City. She received a Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) in 2011 from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Forensic Psychology in 2005 from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in 2003 from Union College. Her educational training focused on the manifestations of behavioral dysregulation, which culminated in a doctoral dissertation on adolescent psychopathy under the guidance of Raymond DiGiuseppe, PhD.

Dr. Ghamar offers her clients a collaborative approach, utilizing evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior therapy, and compassion-focused therapy. She is particularly interested in the management of medical, behavioral, and learning challenges. Dr. Ghamar has utilized these skills with a variety of populations, including individuals with special needs, learning and behavioral challenges, brain injuries, and chronic medical conditions. She enjoys collaborating with other providers to ensure a cohesive approach to her clients’ treatment. Dr.Ghamar uses warmth, humor, and sincerity to create a comfortable and safe environment.

Sharon Thomas, MSc, MSEd
Sharon Thomas is a Learning Specialist and Educational Consultant. She is the Founder and Director of MAIA Education Resource Center, an organization that helps students K-College with and without learning differences through 1:1 tutoring, executive function coaching, test preparation, school placement and workshops. MAIA Education is a resource to families who need timely referrals to professionals including psychologists, speech/language therapists, psychiatrists, special education attorneys, and college counselors.

Ms. Thomas completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Georgetown University and earned a Master's degree in Child Psychology at University College London as well as a Master's in General and Special Education at Hunter College. She worked as a teacher therapist at Karen Horney Therapeutic Nursery and as a Learning Specialist for both private and public schools. She consults for schools in New York City.
