Description

Strategies for Effective Group Work to Build Communities of Learners-Edinburg

Both students and instructors are ambivalent at best or downright hostile about group work in the classroom, citing lack of accountability, unequal distribution of labor, and, most importantly for instructors, difficulty in effective assessment of such assignments. However, group work is not only vital to help students gain strategies necessary for working with colleagues in their future careers, it leads to building a more engaged community of learners within the classroom. This session will introduce strategies for creating a variety of teamwork activities that can be adapted across disciplines, along with practical tips for assessment of such activities. Join us for a conversation with Dr. Diana Dominguez who is a member of UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers and featured as the September 2017 UTRGV faculty member in the CTE Faculty Spotlight on Teaching.
