Description

How to Identify and Document Strangulation
Following the successful passage of HB17 in the last legislative session, which made strangulation a felony offence, UDVC has been developing a training to ensure that professionals involved in DV cases are aware of this statutory change. This training will also enable professionals can recognize strangulation, know how to respond, document, and report on these types of crimes & understand their role as part of a multi-disciplinary team as we work to both respond to and prevent strangulation.

Who Should Attend?
This training is specifically created for professionals seeking to improve the identification, investigation & prosecution of strangulation cases in their communities. This includes but is not limited to; - Law Enforcement - Prosecutors - Healthcare Providers (ER staff, EMT, Nurses, Social workers) - Victim Advocates

What Can You Expect?
The following topics will be covered - Who is at risk of strangulation? - What is strangulation & suffocation? - Identifying the visible and non-visible signs - Short & long-term effects of strangulations - Documentation & trauma-informed practices for law enforcement, healthcare providers, prosecutors & advocates
