About the film:

ABOUT THE FILM:

‘Stranger Fruit’ is a new documentary movie that investigates the killing of Mike Brown in Ferguson back in 2014. The film became global news last year during its worldwide premiere at the SXSW Film Festival due to it releasing new evidence in the case.

“We are so grateful to Mr. Pollock for creating this powerful movie. I’m proud to call this the official Brown family authorized piece about my son, and I hope the whole world can see it and help us re-open this case,” said Michael Brown Sr.

The film’s director, Jason Pollock, who moved to Ferguson to make this film with the Brown family, released videotape last year showing that Mike Brown was actually at the convenience store the night before he died. Although suspected it already, this new tape became proof in many people’s eyes that the St. Louis County prosecutor’s office had been covering up key pieces of evidence in this case.

“Michael Brown’s name has been defamed so much by the media and our government. They have been the victims of so much fake news it’s almost unthinkable,” said Director Jason Pollock. “Our film, ‘Stranger Fruit,’ is the antidote to all this defamation, and we hope everyone in this county is ready to swallow this pill.”

Since their SXSW premiere, the filmmaker has been back in the edit room and now has a brand new cut of the film with even more ground breaking evidence in the case.

“After so much discussion when our new evidence dropped last year, we knew that we had to go back into the edit and add it all into the cut, said Director Jason Pollock. “Our new version of the film has even more evidentiary findings that we know the public needs to know. The cover-up on this case is thick, and it’s still going. Now it’s time to change that for Brown family.”

In March of this year it was announced that Gravitas Ventures and Starz purchased the film. Through these distribution deals, ‘Stranger Fruit’ is now on iTunes, VOD, and Amazon nationwide and had its television premiere on Starz on June 18th. The film screened at Harvard’s school of Politics in April and will be going on a national screening tour in the fall with various partners.
